Alex Aaronson is a photographer specialized in nature photography. Often considered one of the best types of photography to get started with, it can be one of the hardest but most fulfilling fields. There is no better way for aspiring photographers to get started than to explore and experiment with something that’s already out there and doesn’t need specific tools or instruments. In order to get started, you can use what you have: a garden, a park, a field… anything will work. From animals to landscapes, there is so much choice and scope for learning, but the best thing to do is to just get out there and start.
Alex Aaronson explains that if you’re interested in any kind of photography, this is probably where you need to start: it doesn’t matter if you want to do fashion or portraits, you will have time to move in different directions. It is important however to get started with something simple and readily available. This is a great kind of photography because all you need to do is to head out the door and get inspired by what you see: don’t worry about the different technical settings for now, just go with what you think would make a good subject.
It may be the most accessible type of photography, but Alex Aaronson explains that it can take years to master it. So if you are passionate about it, get ready, because there is so much to learn. Starting from simple subjects, you will be able to make more creative choices as times goes on. Take the duck in this picture for example: in order to make it a great photo, you will need to make some creative choices when you feel confident, to differentiate yourself from the thousands of other photographers.
Alex Aaronson explains that he became so passionate about nature photography because it allowed him to step out of his comfort zone and discover amazing animals and landscapes, while constantly pushing him to find innovative ways to stand out with his pictures. Start small with the lake or the park in your neighbourhood, and you may find that that is exactly the type of photography you want to do. Once you feel more confident, you can look into courses and a better equipment to suit your needs, but for the moment, have fun!
